The VHD Pro (Vehicle Hot Spot Detector) profiling system combines thermal imaging cameras and laser measurement scanners to detect overheated vehicles. It is installed before critical road sections such as tunnels, or ferry and train boarding areas. By identifying high-risk vehicles, the VHD Pro allows road and rail operators to stop vehicles before they enter the critical area. For each vehicle, a 3D model is generated and the vehicle class is determined automatically. This combination of thermal information and 3D data allows functional vehicle parts, such as the wheels, cabin area or exhaust pipe, to be automatically identified. The high recognition rate allows free flow vehicle measurement with fully automated detection of hot spots at highway speeds.
